The transfer window is well known for creating some insane moments in English Football, from bizarre transfers to surprising ones, ones that cause other clubs to almost go to the wall, and a bit of unacceptable behaviour from disappointed, jealous fans.

Rarely however have I heard of players being threatened by “fans” not to leave the club.

Reports today indicate that lowly Burton Albion have told manager Nigel Clough that they will not stand in his way should Derby County offer him the vacant managers job made available following Billy Davies’ move to Nottingham Forest.

Nigel Clough is of course the son of Brian Clough, former Derby County, Nottingham Forest (and Leeds United ) manager and former Middlesbrough and Sunderland striker. (more…)

Boxing Day - English Football Tradition

You just cannot beat the seasonal program in English Football, regardless as to whether you think it a holiday would be better to tie the leagues - in particular the English Premier League - to the rest of the major European leagues.

Better still, this years Boxing Day program in the EPL offers not one single glamour clash, with fans of teams outside of the top 5 getting a great Boxing Day present in solid football that gives them the chance to inflict some pain on the giants. (more…)
