The transfer window is well known for creating some insane moments in English Football, from bizarre transfers to surprising ones, ones that cause other clubs to almost go to the wall, and a bit of unacceptable behaviour from disappointed, jealous fans.

Rarely however have I heard of players being threatened by “fans” not to leave the club.

Sadly, Jermaine Defoe has.

“I have absolutely no idea how they got hold of my number but some of the calls have made me sick to my stomach,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

“I cannot accept that it is coming from people with a balanced state of mind.”

There is no excuse for this sickening, abhorrent and obscene behaviour.

Defoe has a family who are rightly concerned for his and their own safety.  He has a life that he wants to live, and should in no way be put at risk because he might feel the time is right to move on, possibly back to Tottenham, perhaps to Manchester City.

Whoever these disgusting, despicable individuals are, they deserve to be arrested and charged and assessed by psychiatrists as soon as possible.  They’re not big, not clever - they’re deranged, and have quite possibly hastened Defoe’s move away from Portsmouth.

Idiots.
