Are Chelsea Broke?
“I don’t think we will be doing any business in the January transfer window because the type of players we are looking for are not available.
“Another reason is that we have still got some long-term injuries coming back and in January or February, Chelsea will have more player availability.”
–Peter Kenyon
“The type of players we are looking for” - straight from Peter Kenyon. Would they be the kind that cost no money? After all, few players are out of contract at this time of year.
Yet with talk of Emile Heskey returning to Liverpool and even Arsene Wenger thinking about bringing in new faces at Arsenal, what can Luis Felipe Scolari do to improve what was until recently the richest club in Britain (propped up by the billionaire Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich)?
Chelsea and Liverpool have been locked in a battle of top of the table mediocrity for weeks now, and with the scouse club moving 3 points clear this week in what is a tight league from top to bottom, surely some competition for places up front is needed?
It seems that the days of Chelsea waving their magnetic wallet at Europe and Africa’s best could be behind us if this is indeed an indication that no new signings means no money in West London.
