Steven Gerrard Arrested

Just hours after Liverpool’s 1-5 mauling of Newcastle United - a victory that allowed the Merseysiders to pull three points clear of Chelsea following their 2-2 draw with Fulham - Steven Gerrard was arrested in relation to an alleged assault.

Straight after the game, Gerrard was talking up Liverpool’s chances of winning the English Premier League, their first since 1990:

“We have big players here and we will have a lot of tests and challenges to come,” said Gerrard.

“But if we keep playing like this then we will be there.”

Yet hours later, Gerrard is in custody for an incident in a restaurant in the Southport area.  Sound like a man who is a determined, reasonable character to hold the captaincy of a football team?

Or some joker who believes his own press?

Of course footballers are often getting in trouble with the law, getting into fights on and off the pitch.

But if you’re an athlete earning over £50,000 a week, exactly what is your excuse for being out at 2.30 am?
