Michael Owen - No Decision

Michael Owen

Apparently Michael Owen is refusing to make a decision on his Newcastle United future until the summer, and has put contract talks on hold.

Given that Owen’s time on Tyneside has done nothing at all for his career (except crock him for a year) it’s a wonder that he didn’t organise a quick transfer out of calamity city the moment Fabio Capello dropped him from the England squad.

As things stand, Joe Kinnear doesn’t know what Michael Owen is going to do, which every man and his dog has an opinion on the matter.

One such man is former chairman and heavy prostitute user Freddie Shepherd. This moral compass has decreed that:

“Let’s hope he stays because morally he owes Newcastle. He has been injured a lot of the time since I signed him and he has barely played one in four games that he could have had he been fit. He owes Newcastle another year.”

If we’re going to talk about morals, howabout this?  Michael Owen isn’t playing for England at present, and needs to be making an impact in the English Premier League.  He isn’t doing this at Newcastle.  He has 6 months of his contract left, then he can walk - FOR FREE.

Morally, Michael Owen needs to sort out a move today.  Newcastle then receive a fee - something they won’t receive if he moseys on out of town in June - and both Owen and Newcastle can move on from what has been a shoddy, underachieving mess for both parties.

And frankly, once anyone starts paying attention to Freddie Shepherd on matters of football (in fact on any matter that doesn’t involve shafting someone) then humanity is lost.
