Pompey Exodus

Harry Redknapp

Following Harry Redknapp’s move from FA Cup winners Portsmouth to Tottenham Hotspur, the rumourmill is heavily indicating that a raft of Pompey names are set to follow.

Spurs apparently have plenty of money to give to the new boss, and he has plenty of options.

The implication of his move seems to be increasingly obvious - Tottenham Hotspur is the biggest club Redknapp has managed, he’s about to get a transfer kitty several times larger than those he’s previously had.  So why shouldn’t he splash out on Espanyol right-back Steve Finnan in the January transfer window?

A manager of Redknapp’s reputation is bound to get players following him from job to job, at very least because he knows what they can do.  So when you hear that Pompey defender Lauren has claimed that striker Jermain Defoe will make a return to Spurs to play for Redknapp, and that England right-back Glen Johnson will also leave the south-coast club, there’s no reason to dismiss the idea.

So it seems that Redknapp has most of his changes sorted out - including a change in goal, with potential target Le Mans’ Yohann Pele the first choice and Portsmouth’s David James the alternative.
