Head to Head in Manchester
Manchester City and Manchester United go head-to-head today at the Eastlands stadium, with the City team sitting 14th and finally beginning to play like a team of millionaires which Manchester United can use a win to push themselves back into contention.
With Liverpool not playing until Monday (when they welcome a below-par West Ham United), Chelsea can put a bit of air between them with a win over Arsenal.
The big story though is the Manchester pretenders - City are determined to put one over United, with manager Mark Hughes a former United player under Ferguson and likely to be high on the list of replacements when Sir Alex retires at some point in the next 3 years.
With big name stars on both sides turning out today, it could be a goal fest, it could be a turnover - but it shouldn’t be a 0-0 affair.
Manchester City’s fans and new owners may well be using the game to judge just how far they’ve come since Sven Goran Ericsson was replaced with Mark Hughes and Robinho was signed some weeks later. Given City’s terminal end to the previous season, marked improvement should be apparent, and if Mark Hughes has planned everything right, they could provide a real, comprehensive win over United.
Not one of those surprising wins that City used to get - I mean comprehensively outclassing, outplaying and out-tackling Manchester United.
It isn’t impossible.
