Ticket Price Talk
It’s fascinating that my club Middlesbrough FC is considering lowering
the price of tickets in order to maintain support for the club during
concerning economic times.
Few top flight clubs are as passionate about maintaining links in the
close-nit local community as Boro - with the exception of clubs like
Sunderland, West Ham and the recently promoted Hull and Stoke. It’s
heartwarming and encouraging to see Chief Executive Keith Lamb and
Manager Gareth Southgate speaking on BBC Tees’ Boro Forum recently about
how the club will progress during the economic downturn.
Other plans include maximizing investment in locally produced players,
and to be honest a team full of hardworking local lads who don’t manage
to keep the club in the top flight will have much more resonance with
fans at a local, community level than a team of millionaire
internationals who promise much but deliver little.
Hopefully with Boro considering ringfencing money from Sky Sports to
subsidise gate prices, we won’t ever need to find out either way on that
score - as long as they continue to be an important element of the
Teesside community, their future is assured whatever happens.
