Stick it in your piggybank…

drogba3.jpgDidier Drogba’s insane behaviour during Chelsea’s penalty defeat against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night is one of those rare occasions in football that gets replayed on TV news bulletins again and again before the sports news section.

As such, the significance shouldn’t be ruled out.

By throwing the coin into the crowd, Drogba he opened himself up to criticism and a charge of violent conduct from the FA.

He’s also set an astonishingly poor example, effective treating fans of the game young and old with utter contempt. Drogba is paid more in a week than most of us can earn in two years.

It goes further, however. Such a charge, if proven, will result in a ban of a length to be decided by the FA disciplinary panel - Jamie Carragher received a three-match ban for a similar offence in 2002.

Drogba’s moment of madness - which he has apologised for - has also attracted the attentions of the police… but any sort of ban could severely dent Chelsea’s title ambitions.
