England - How it is
I am sick and tired of reading in the printed Press and on websites about how England have players who apparently aren’t as good as they/we think they are.
Utter tripe, and I say to each one of you writing this rubbish - some supposedly patriotic Englishmen - that with this attitude you should be ashamed of yourselves. You patently don’t know what you’re talking about, and simply aren’t doing your jobs.
If Greece can win a European Championship, then England can win another World Cup. It’s a matter of organisation and management and playing to a system.
It isn’t rocket science, and it isn’t revolutionary. That’s how we won in 1966, that’s how the Rugby team won in 2003, with everyone from the manager to the players on the pitch knowing what his job is, and what his team-mate’s job is.
Fabio Capello has a hard job on his hand bringing the players into line, and whereas I would have preferred a largely new team made up of under-21s and fringe players the state of the Premiership means that most of these players end up in the Championship. As such, he has to pick from the highly paid, English born players from Britain’s top clubs.
Make no mistake, however - the best English players are good enough. There is enough money in the game now to push English players out of club teams, and if they weren’t good enough they wouldn’t be playing, end of story.
As I say, you should be ashamed of yourselves, I’m saddened and disappointed. Get behind the team, and get over yourselves.
